Underage Gambling

BestCraps.com does not condone underage gambling. We strongly suggest that parents take extra precautions to avoid exposing your children early to gambling. Underage gambling can easily be prevented with parental supervision This problem is usually caused by the environment the child grows up with. It is also the responsibility of the parents to prevent the child from accessing gambling online. In most countries, underage gambling is prohibited. All reputable online casinos have underage gambling policies preventing those below the gambling age from playing. However, these safety measures can only go so far without the help of the parents.

The Act

Research conducted at Harvard Medical School in 1997 reports that most young people do not gamble on casino card games, games of skill, sports and lottery. Underage gambling usually occurs in group sessions in residences where teens get together to gamble. The National Gambling Impact Study Commission reaffirmed the report when they also conducted a research of their own. The report indicated that slots is a staple game for any adult gambler; not so for their underage counterparts. The report suggests that casino underage gambling does not regularly happen in casinos because of the strict enforcement of underage gambling regulations.

With the rise of online gambling, however, underage gambling has taken a different trend. Gamblers below the age limit will be able to gamble online, provided that they be able to take hold of an adult’s credit card. This has been recognized as a serious problem and many online casinos have adopted several safety measures in order to prevent underage gambling from occurring within their websites.

Underage gambling usually starts when children are exposed to gambling, usually by their guardians. The minimum age in order for persons to gamble in casinos, both online and traditional ones, differ from country to country. Some countries have set the minimum gambling age to 21, while others have set it at 18. It is important to be familiar with one’s local laws on gambling age in order to be fully aware of any repercussions that might happen when gambling.

The best and easiest way to combat the problem of underage gambling is prevention. With that, several online casinos have set up preventive measures in order to minimize, if not eradicate, underage gambling once and for all. Gambling institutions are not the only ones that should be vigilant. Aside from the government, parents should be primarily responsible for their children. Underage gambling is everyone’s common problem. Therefore, it is in everyone’s best interest that the problem be nipped before it is allowed takes root.

Prevention

The prohibition of gambling by minors is mandated by most, if not all, countries in the world. Several groups, usually not associated with governments, have also taken strides in the prevention of underage gambling. The National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG), the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) affiliated charity, released “Talking with Children about Gambling” in 2008, in the hopes of helping parents address the problem. The Institute for Research on Pathological Gambling and Related Disorders helped develop the brochure; they’ve also included information about the games that underage gamblers usually play, tips on how parents can communicate effectively with their children who are on the verge of having problem gambling behavior,.and locations as well as contact information on where and how to get help.

Other groups in the US have also taken several measures to combat underage gambling. The Executive Director of the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey or the CCGNJ, Donald Weinbaum, launched the campaign with the New Jersey Lottery Deputy Director of Sales, Robert Kersey on the “Not 18 Yet? No Bet” Annual Awareness Drive. CCGN has taken this initiative as a yearly task to educate and remind New Jersey residents that there is an age restriction on lottery and other forms of gambling.

Several casino companies have also proactively implemented preventive measures that curb underage gambling. It is not surprising to see several casino staff patrolling the premises on the lookout for underage gamblers.
