Blackjack

Blackjack is one of the most popular casino games, and is played by countless casino game lovers all over the world . It is believed to have originated from 17th century France. The name is widely believed to be derived from a unique rule in the older French game called Vinght En Un, where getting an Ace and a Jack of Spades automatically gets you a win.

Blackjack is a widely popular card game with the main goal of getting the value of your cards as close to twenty-one as possible without going over it. It is mainly played in casinos or online. Either platform follows the same betting rules and methods. It can be played with up to 7 players on the table.

Rules

The games starts with the players placing their bets before the cards are dealt. The face cards (Jacks, Queens, and Kings) have the same value, which is 10 points. Aces can either be a 1 or an 11. The remaining cards’ points is the same as their numbers. Blackjack, unlike poker, is played only against the dealer and never against fellow players. Players are initially dealt two cards each. If the total points of the cards is 21 (an ace and any 10-value card), then that player automatically wins The round continues for the rest of the players on the table.

As you, along with the rest of the players in the able, and the dealer start the game with two cards, the casino dealer will have one card faced down or hidden and the other is shown. The card you receive either face up or down depending on the rules of the specific casino you are playing in. After being dealt with your cards, and depending on the total value, you have the choice of either asking for another card (hit) if the value is too low or playing with your current cards (stand) if you feel you have a decent value.

Asking for more cards or hitting can be done until you go over 21 (at which point you lose), or until you reach a value that you’re confident could beat the dealer’s hand. Players can also choose to double right away following the first two cards. By doing so, you’ll only receive a single card. Your winnings will however be doubled, provided you win the round.

Unlike players, the dealer cannot choose to hit or stand. Instead, the dealer’s action depends on the value of his/her current hand. The dealer is forced to hit if the value of the hand is 16 or below and is forced to stand if the value of the hand is 17 and above.

At the beginning of the game, if the dealer has an ace for their face up card, players have the option to opt for an insurance. During which, you are required to offer half of your original bet. If you lose the round, you’ll lose the original bet but win twice as much as the insurance bet, thus resulting in you neither losing nor winning something. If you win the round, you win the bet but lose the insurance resulting in you winning only half what you would have received without the insurance.

If you’re dealing with a pair, you can choose to split the pair. To split, you add another bet equal to your first. After which, you’ll be playing with 2 hands of 2 cards each.

Now that you know the rules of the game, you can start playing. Remember, it’s not very difficult to win provided you have the required knowledge and a sufficient amount of experience—not to mention luck.
